Your websites have spoken..

Many of you have taken advantage of Grow Digi’s free website audit.  Here are the three most common findings from your investigations over the past week:

  1. Most websites do not fully comply with search requirements:  This is because many web developers do not have the knowledge to ensure websites are built for search. This is a huge opportunity cost for you because it means potential clients will struggle to find you. It will also make any search advertising you do more expensive, as your quality score will be low.

  1. Many business owners still aren’t thinking like their customers: Many of the keywords used during your audits were from a business owner’s perspective, rather than from a potential customer’s perspective. We will discuss this further in upcoming weeks because this is costing you money as well! Remember, always walk in your customers’ shoes, work to understand their journeys and tailor your business and marketing accordingly.

  1. You’re getting what you pay for: The lowest scores were either self-built websites or ones built with limited knowledge on ‘low-cost’ or DIY platforms. Further proof that ’cheap’ options often end up costing you more. Remember- “A specialist will always beat a generalist”. Would you do your own heart surgery or trust a friend down the road to do the same?

Those of you who took the opportunity to test your Google Ads performance, using the Wordstream Google Ads Grader, also got some surprises. All had wasted money and opportunity to deliver better results. Another example of getting what you pay for when it comes to advice and expertise.

THE NEW BRICKS AND MORTAR

Say you own a physical store (some of you do) which you spend hours of your time and significant money dressing up, fitting out, renovating and styling.  Would you put old, out-dated stock in your front display window? Would you give customers calling for directions the wrong address? Of course you wouldn’t. But the reality is an underperforming website which no one can find is nigh on the same thing in today’s digital age.

SO, WHERE TO FROM HERE?

Grow Digi can help.  They are website experts as well as marketing experts. All Grow Digi clients have their websites designed and optimised for customer experience, professional brand portrayal and search engine performance. And there is no chunky upfront cash payment. Grow Digi allows you to pay manageable monthly payments to free up your cashflow and deliver better value.

As for Google Ads, which are becoming more and more expensive as demand grows, the Grow Digi team has identified two alternatives that are delivering more than 25% better returns for many clients. Check out their results for January, below.

EXPECT MORE FROM YOUR DIGITAL DOLLAR

Most of us will have learnt the difference between fixed costs (expenses that remain constant for a period of time irrespective of the level of output) and variable costs (expenses that change directly and proportionally to the changes in business activity level or volume) in high school economics. But many SMEs still fail to consider how this is impacting their business P&L.

Check out this visual below, showing the difference in return on investment from marketing across different products and services that a company offers. Remember to not include fixed costs, just variable cost when it comes to marketing decisions, including building and running websites and online ads. And your website is key, for findability, customer engagement and marketing effectiveness.
